1. MARKET OVERVIEW
----------------------------
The bumpy ride continues. On Friday, the GDP in the 3rd quarter
increased at an annualized rate of 2.7%, down from 5.6% in the
2nd quarter and below the predicted level of 3.5%. This is both
good and bad. It's good if you thought the economy was growing
too quickly and it's bad if you think corporate profits will now
shrink. A negative earnings report by Nortel sent the market down,
especially the fiber optic stocks on Wednesday but JDS Uniphase
came to the rescue with good earnings and prevented key support
levels from being broken. Thursday was interesting because the
Nasdaq sunk quickly to hit the 3100 level but then closed strongly
at the 3272 level. The key resistance level of 3500 on the
Nasdaq seems to be pretty strong, and if we can get through it
the tech stocks should be in good shape. Microsoft is doing its
best to help out as its up 40% in just 7 trading days from the
low it hit on Oct. 18th of $48.44 to its closing price of $67.69.
See our strategy of the week for an interesting strategy using
the price of $50. The Dow had a much better week than the Nasdaq
due to the strength of the financial stocks. The Dow has been
up the last 6 out of 7 days.
The Nasdaq was down for the previous week and for the last
7 out of 8 weeks, as the slide continues for the tech stocks.
For the week, the Dow was up 364 points or 3.56%, the Nasdaq was
down 204 points or 5.88% and the S&P 500 was down 17.4 points
or 1.24%. The Nasdaq had three down days and two up days with
support at 3100 and resistance at 3526.. There has been a divergence
with the Dow and the Nasdaq indexes this past week. Dow was up
4 days and down one day last week. Wednesday was a lousy day with
the Nasdaq down 5.6%. If you view the Nasdaq chart below Monday
is neutral, Tuesday and Wednesday are bearish, Wednesday neutral,
Thursday bullish and Friday is neutral. Monday and Tuesday form
a "Bearish Engulfing Pattern".

6. STOCKS TO WATCH
----------------------------
Cisco (CSCO) finding support at $50
Applied Materials (AMAT) can it get back above $50
Spire (SPIR) Great looking technicals
Priceline (PCLN) Will it come back, hold $5
see a quote at yahoo http://quote.yahoo.com/q?s=csco,amat,spir,pcln&d=v1
-----------------------
7. STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
-----------------------
Buy Stocks which come from $100 and hit $50 with a stop at $45
Many high-flier stocks will shoot up to $100 and above and then come crashing, and then find support at $50 and then head back up. One strategy could be to buy as stock approaches $50 and put a stop at $45 - $47 to protect yourself. It seems that $50 is a very strong psychological support level. Remember to do your due diligence before you invest.
See the following charts http://quote.yahoo.com/q?s=msft+rtrsy+ebay+CSCO+&d=b
